West Australian Premier Mark McGowan was among about 400 people who were told to leave the building as both houses of parliament were debating legislation.
The executive manager of parliamentary services Rob Hunter said two groups of primary school children also had to leave the building shortly after 11.30am, Perth time.

The state's most powerful politicians gathered in a general area during the evacuation, which was a fire drill.
'We try and do as many as we can in a year,' Mr Hunter told Daily Mail Australia on Thursday.
